Welcome to our lab! We are interested in quantifying how genomic variation shapes phenotypic diversity, adaptation, and disease susceptibility across populations using evolutionary principles.

Our research focuses on:

  • Evolutionary processes such as hybridization and selection that drive genetic innovation.
  • Structural variants and their evolutionary and fitness impacts.
  • Mutation effects in humans linking evolution to disease and adaptation.

Our lab integrates long-read sequencing, multi-omics biobank data, and novel computational methods to reveal hidden contributors to human traits and disease, delineate the genome function, and advance precision medicine. The lab is part of the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development and the Institute for Health Informatics at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
