Principal Investigator
PingHsun Hsieh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. He received a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Arizona and was a NIH K99/R00 fellow at the University of Washington. His research focuses on human evolution and population genetics.
David Gordon
Senior Bioinformatics Specialist
David Gordon is a Senior Bioinformatics Specialist in the Hsieh Lab with over 30 years of experience in computational genomics and software development. His expertise in computational infrastructure and bioinformatics has been instrumental in establishing the lab's research capabilities.
Natthapon (Mew) Soisangwan
BICB PhD Student
Mew is a third-year Ph.D. student in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Program (BICB) at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, where he also received an M.S. in BICB. His research interests are in using long-read sequencing to investigate biologically relevant structural variants, and utilizing population genetics approaches to study selection and human adaptation. Outside of the lab, he enjoys taking his dog out and also playing various computer games, including League of Legends.
Scott Sauers

Scott is a PhD student in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BICB) program and a concurrent MS student in Computer Science. His current research focuses on developing novel computational methods to analyze pangenome graphs to understand and predict human disease.
Kiley Hudson

Kiley is a Master's student in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BICB) program. Her current research focuses on segmental duplications and understanding genomic diversity.
Matthew Eichelman
MCDB&G PhD Student
Matt is a PhD student in the Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology and Genetics program. His research experience consists of studying bacterial small RNA evolution and implementing machine learning for biodiagnostics. In his free time he likes to go to the gym or run and spend time with friends and family.
